OVERALL GOAL: PROVIDE RESOURCES TO HELP PREVENT AND ADDRESS PRESCRIPTION DRUG MISUSE.
The program is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of sharing medications as well as the risks of fake or counterfeit pills purchased over social media or other unknown sources, and work with pharmaceutical and medical communities on the risks of overprescribing.
Goal 1: RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT DANGERS OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG MISUSE
Increase public awareness of the dangers of prescription drug misuse; local recovery resources; local treatment options through community-based aocial marketing/public education plan to increase awareness of prescription drug misuse issues and the need for a coordinated approach, as measured by completion and dissemination of written plan.
Goal 2: INCREASE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND PDMP AWARENESS
Increase prescriber and pharmacist education opportunities and awareness of PDMP through information dissemination and education campaign geared towards physicians to educate prescribers, conduct training for physicians about dangers of co-dispensing controlled substances (provide approved CME trainings for providers at no cost) and enhanced collaboration among pharmacies to ensure timely data input into PDMP and other relevant databases.
Goal 3: INCREASE COORDINATION/COLLABORATION FOR DATA COLLECTION
Collaborate with state-level agencies, prescribers, law enforcement and pharmacies to develop approaches to increase collection of PMP and other relevant localized data to identify and implement a comprehensive, real-time, regional information collection, analysis, and outcomes measurement software, implement the ODMAP system into all law enforcement agencies in in the region, and increased infrastructure/capacity to collect and track relevant data to ensure the use of a PDMP and other relevant data to address prescription drug misuse and opioid overdose.
Goal 4: INCREASE THE CAPACITY FOR DIVERSION AND PREVENTION EFFORTS
Provide community education community members on the dangers of sharing prescription opioids; conduct environmentally responsible medication disposal programs including take back events and drug drop boxes; provide regional law enforcement officers CLEET certified training on medication diversion, counterfeit pills, and fentanyl; distribute lockboxes and deterra pouches to encourage safe storage and disposal of medication in homes; and identify communities with high rates of prescription drug misuse and target them for primary and secondary prevention activities.
